Romantic Red Rose Wedding || Carla+Lorenzo
After witnessing and photographing a beautiful romantic red rose wedding of Carla+Lorenzo, we asked them about how did it all start, and they were gracious to share their love story on our blog.
Carla+Lorenzo Love Story
“Carla and Lorenzo met in August 2005 in Gainesville, FL through a mutual friend who had invited Carla to the church where Lorenzo served as an administrator. Upon first glance, Lorenzo admired how beautiful Carla was and she thought he was “pretty cute” too. Shortly thereafter they became friends, and over time their friendship began to grow and deepen, even after Lorenzo relocated to Tampa in 2007.
In 2010, after the successful completion of her Ph.D program, Carla had to return to her native Trinidad & Tobago. Lorenzo helped her pack and they said their goodbyes without admitting how hard it was to let go. In spite of this, they kept in touch over the years with Lorenzo typically calling Carla on his long treks between Tampa and Pensacola.
It wasn’t until March 2018 when a random email quiz prompted a conversation on soulmates between the two. At that point, Lorenzo and Carla had a “confession session” about unspoken feelings that had developed between them over the years. Shortly afterwards, Carla would return to Florida for a visit in July, and upon seeing each other, they both knew they couldn’t let each other go again.
Over the next few months Carla would return to Florida to see Lorenzo and meet his family, and in December 2018 Lorenzo visited Trinidad for the first time. Less than six months later, Carla and Lorenzo decided to get married. Lorenzo took her to his childhood home in Pensacola, FL, the place where he transitioned from a boy to a man, and while kneeling asked her to allow him to make one more important transition – to become her husband. Carla happily said yes! It wasn’t until they were leaving the subdivision that Carla noticed that Lorenzo’s childhood neighborhood shared the same name as her late father. Coincidence? They thought not!
Carla and Lorenzo were married in Pensacola, FL on March 3rd at 3:00pm in front of a small gathering of family and friends, in a ceremony which had just an extra special touch… it was officiated by Lorenzo’s dad (and namesake). It meant the world to them both to have ‘their dad’ accept their request and do the honor of pronouncing the blessing over their union. Just perfect!”
Carla+Lorenzo have already planned their wedding when they reached out to me. During our initial consultation via Skype, when I asked about their proposal, they laughed – they weren’t officially engaged yet. The reason that Lorenzo waited is that he was in the US and Carla was in Trinidad. He knew he wanted to ask her in person, make it special! And, he definitely did.
The day I was to meet Carla+Lorenzo, I knew we were going to do an engagement session in the studio. What I didn’t know was that they came to me the same day she said YES! It was so perfect and the excitement and joy in their eyes just added an extra spark to their engagement session.
Carla+Lorenzo chose an elegant 5 Eleven Palafox wedding venue located in downtown Pensacola. Groom’s mom andher sisters, professionals in the floral industry, took charge of floral decorations filled with red roses. On their wedding day, Carla wore 2 gorgeous gowns, a princess ballgown with an epic long train for the ceremony, and a sleeker gown for the reception. We had planned to go back to the Pensacola Grand Hotel in between the ceremony and reception to do a couple’s photoshoot in both gowns but not all weddings go as planned. The sky opened up during the ceremony and a huge thunderstorm swept in! But we made it work, even in the rain and wind we were able to take EPIC images indoors, later outside with their limo, and at the hotel after the reception. Carla’s uncle, traveled from Trinidad to play a ceremonial song on trumpet during sand ceremony. The reception was filled with wishes of happiness to the newlyweds, dancing, and plenty of laughs. What an amazingly epic day to remember!
Now, as Carla+Lorenzo start their married life in Trinidad, we wish them all the love and happiness in the world and look forward to seeing them again when they are back in the States.
