Unique Kenyan Wedding at the STAR Center || Nyokabi + Karogo

Nyokabi and Karogo are such an amazing couple to work with and with their 1 year anniversary coming up we are so excited to share their story and photos from their big day! Their traditional Kenyan wedding was a mix of traditional and modern cultures blended together. We were amazed by the many traditions from their home-country, like singing off the bride leaving her parents house while the ground is laid with fabric, singing in Swahili to take bride and groom into the reception, feeding parents the wedding cake, etc. We also found Nyokabi and Karogo’s love story, written by Nyokabi, on their wedding website and it is just too adorable not to share on their blog! Check out their story below, along with their wedding video and breathtaking photos from their perfect day!

“Story yetu is a testimony of how Karogo and I met. It was nothing short of God’s plan and Jesus takes the glory.

I moved from Kenya to Seattle in August 2014.

Karogo had been living in Maryland for the past 10 years. His auntie lived in Seattle and he had previously mentioned to her that he was looking for a wife. As fate would have it, or God’s hand, the auntie was a friend to a family member and she knew me. I was the ‘new girl’ in town.

The auntie, of course, mentioned this to Karogo. By his words, he was told, “kwìna kairetù kèru nà gwicirìa niukomwendà” (there is a new girl in town and I think you will love her). My number was shared. Two weeks passed before I got a call from him.

Meanwhile, the move to another country was challenging for me. I had to start a new – making friends, getting a job and adjusting to a new culture. I knew God had a plan for me, hence I started a 21-day prayer for my husband.

On the twenty-second day, 22 October 2014, Karogo called. We never stopped talking since then.

A year later Karogo came to Seattle on 29 October to celebrate my birthday. We had dinner reservations at Woodmark hotel, After checking in, I went to the bathroom and on coming back he offered me champagne. On sipping, I realized there was a ring in the glass. I did not even wait for him to ask. I was like, yes! I will be your wife! Haha! I was too excited! LOL ? ? ?

The rest, as they say, is history.

We are excited to be spending our lives together and to see God manifest himself in our lives through this union. We welcome you to celebrate with us as we dance to God’s faithfulness and exchange our vows.

KARIBU SAANA☺??”
